Part French, part Spanish and part Mediterranean it's no wonder Catalan cuisine is so lip-smackingly good - and no wonder the Barcelonese dedicate to much time and money on food and eating out. Barcelona is a city of foodies and this is reflected in the diverse range and excellent quality of restaurants it has to offer. There's a lot to be said for finding a cosy Catalan restaurant and trying local dishes like escudella and ollada (two tasty stews) as well as Catalan-style cod, best enjoyed with a sea breeze at the high end joints around Port Olympic. Otherwise Barcelona has plenty of international restaurants to try out, from upmarket haunts like Noti, or the multitude of ethnic options in Raval and Gracia. Meanwhile Els Quatre Gats is the locale where Picasso first exhibited his artwork and a little further up the Costa Brava lies El Bulli - recently voted the best restaurant in the entire world for the umpteenth time. | |
