Sailing Trips in Barcelona
Your guide to unfurling the sails and setting out to sea
By Duncan Rhodes
Whether you’re a seasoned seaman, or a traveller who can’t resist the allure of the sparkling Mediterranean, at least for a few hours, you’re on the right page. We share a number of Barcelona Life approved sailing tours and trips, as well as details on how to charter a yacht for yourself.
Life on the ocean waves! That’s what it’s all about. Blues skies, salty air, and the majesty of the Mediterranean unfurling in front of you as you sail out of Barcelona’s ports thirsty for adventure. (Hopefully with a copy of Moby Dick and a bottle of rum tucked inside your cabin for good measure).
Undoubtedly Barcelona is one of the best bases in the world for sailing holidays with its clement weather, modern marinas and the wealth of picturesque coastal towns along the Costa Brava. Those with a week or so to spend as sea might also note the city’s proximity to the magical Balearic islands, Majorca, Menorca and Ibiza
The joy of going on a sailing trip of course is that you can make it as active or passive as you want it to be. Aspiring Buccaneers can spend their time in Barcelona learning the ropes (quite literally) of this ancient art form on a RYA accredited sailing course that will have them hoisting, tacking and reefing up and down the golden coastline of the Costa Brava. Whilst experienced sailors and able-bodied seamen can hire/charter a yacht from Barcelona and take a leisurely (or not so leisurely) cruise around the Mediterranean, heading up to France or further down to Spain as they wish.
And even if you don’t know your port from your starboard (and have little intention of learning) you can still enjoy a fantastic vacation by renting a yacht with a qualified skipper (aye aye Captain!) who will do all the hard work for you. You might still have to yank the odd rope and make yourself useful, but the best part of the day can be spent drinking champagne on deck, practicing your dives off starboard, and working on your tan. Now that’s what we call a holiday!
Finally, for the casual tourist who doesn’t have time for a weekend, let alone a week, on a boat, there are several great activities on offer in the Catalan capital that we can recommend, which can be enjoyed in a single afternoon… such as a ‘romantic sunset cruise’ or ‘chilled out sailing trip’ with friends. Keep reading for more info!

If sunbathing, swimming and winching the odd rope is not enough for you, then you might want to try your luck at one of man’s oldest hobbies… fishing! Click the link above to find out a list of boats available for fishing charters in and around Barcelona. You will also be able to grill and eat your catch at the end of the day at a local restaurant.
Yacht Charter Companies
There are a number of yacht charter companies operating out of Barcelona which can hire you a variety of boats, including sailing yachts, motorboats and catamarans. If you’re an experienced and qualified sailor you can leave a deposit and rent a yacht bareboat (ie. without a skipper/crew) for private charter. However most companies also provide the option of hiring a professional captain to make sure your sailing holiday doesn’t end in you shipwrecking yourself on a desert island and being forced to grow a Tom Hanks-style beard (the horror!).
This leading private charter company, directly affiliated with Barcelona Life, has an enviable array of vessels to choose from – from 1 to 12 berth sailing yachts, top notch motor yachts, three catamarans and, perfect for a fancy-dress themed cruise, several historical yachts. You’ll definitely be the envy of the Costa Brava swanning along the Mediterranean in the Llaüt “Sant Ramon” from 1904. Virtually all of their vessels are available both for bareboat rental or with a skipper and/or crew and hostess. They can also arrange sailing day trips, boat parties and luxury cruises for big groups, whilst for corporate team building events why not ask them to organise you a sailing regatta with you as the participants! In the first instance drop us a line on email@example.com with your questions and requests and we’ll ask their expert English-speaking team to get back to you with answers and a price quote.
Learn How To Sail
We’re currently researching the best providers of sailing lessons and courses in and around Barcelona and the Costa Brava, where you can study for (and pass!) your RYA sailing certificate. We’ll be back to update this page shortly with this and any more variations on the great Barcelona sailing holiday we can think of, plus more nautical related fun!
