Let's Go Crazy! Hen Weekends in Barcelona

Looking for the perfect place to celebrate yours, or your best friend's, hen weekend? Then you can stop the search right now. With its gorgeous weather, long stretches of sandy beaches, world class shopping, luxury spas, scintillating nightlife and - of course - an abundance of tanned, toned, Mediterranean yacht-owning hunks, Barcelona has got all the ingredients of a perfect hen party abroad. The city of Gaudi is not only good-looking, but its young, fashionable and knows how to enjoy the good things in life. In short it's a place that you and your amigas are sure to identify with.

A well-planned hen weekend in Barcelona might start with the checking in to a luxury hotel or apartment and quickly proceed to a bit of tanning on the sands (and don't forget your Gucci sunglasses for ogling Javier Bardem lookalikes as they work up a sweat playing beach volleyball). When you've got your eye candy fix for the afternoon you could retire to your hotel swimming pool or - if you're lucky - rooftop jacuzzi, whilst the chance to go shopping on the grand Passeig de Gracia, with its marvels of Modernista architecture is not to be missed. There's also plenty of trendy boutiques, or why not book your own personal shopper for the day to take you on a luxury shopping tour? Of course any self-respecting hen party needs some pampering action and a couple of hours at one of Barcelona's health spas is time well spent, especial if it includes a chakra stone, Thai or even chocolate massage.

Above: Here come the girls....

Barcelona is much more than sun, soaking and shopping though. By night the Catalan capital is a hedonist's nirvana. Amazing restaurants serving every kind of cuisine, hip cocktail bars rustling up divine liquid concoctions, and plenty of glamorous nightclubs for an evening of dancing, flirting and (mild?) misbehaving. (If the latter sounds like you, then we can definitely recommend this VIP nightlife tour, which includes guestlist to Opium Mar!). The best hen parties will stretch over a long weekend of course meaning you can do it all again the next day, maybe factoring in a tour of some of the city's rich cultural sights, or fun activities like Cava tasting, cocktail making classes, treasure hunts or even sailing trips.

We've listed a few original ideas for things to do below that might give you some inspiration. All of them are operated by our hand-selected local partners, so we're confident you'll love them. Follow the links for more info, or send us an email. You can expect to hear back within one working day.

Recommended Day Activities

Make Your Own Cava
One of the most popular options on our website, with consistently rave reviews, for this Bacchic activity you'll take the train out to the Penedes wine region just outside the city to a friendly boutique winery. Here you'll get to taste several types of delicious "Catalan champagne" made from grapes harvested by the local vineyard and then disgorge and bottle your very own bottle of Cava. The basic price is just €42 pp, and for a little more you can also enjoy a rustic lunch and make a day of it. Email us on info@barcelona-life.com with your group size and preferred dates and you'll hear back within 24 hours.

Life Drawing Class
No sniggering now, the male form is a beautiful thing... at least the specimen that you'll be sketching during this intimate art class, which gives you the chance to turn the tables in the battle of the sexes and ogle and objectify a man for a change. All in the name of art of course. This private class lasts one hour and includes an art instructor and glass of Cava. From €30 pp. Email info@barcelona-life.com for more info.

Treasure Hunt
For a group activity that includes city exploring, team work, brain power and a fair bit of comedy this one has it all. Written by a professional writer and featuring several professional actors in fancy dress (giving you clues), this particular treasure hunt has a pirate's theme and X marks the spot. Tailored for your group, the event can also include party games such as sangria pong, sumo wrestling or even blow job school (for those determined to have a truly classy hen do!). Prices start at €29 pp. Email info@barcelona-life.com.

Beach Games
If you can't resist the lure of Barcelona's baking sands, then this option is a great way of spicing up what might otherwise be just a boring sunbathing session with games like volleyball, bat'n'ball, tug of war and limbo. Included in the price per person is all the games equipment, along with some toned and tanned hunky instructors and some chilled drinks. For a little extra this activity can also be combined with Stand Up Paddling. Starting at €29 pp with a min. group size of 8 people. Email info@barcelona-life.com for more info.

Gourmet Cooking Class
They say if you understand a country's cuisine you are half way to understanding its culture, so what better way to get under the skin of Spain than by learning how to cook classic Spanish and Catalan dishes. With the help of a bilingual expert chef you'll use local seasonal ingredients to rustle up a four course meal of paella, gazpacho soup, a tapas appetiser and dessert - all washed down with a nice Rioja. The basic cost is €65 pp, but there's also the option to include a tour of the world famous La Boqueria food market for a total of €78 pp. Click on the link above for more info or email info@barcelona-life.com to request a reservation. For a more affordable option you could try this paella making class (€32pp), or head here for more food and drink options.

Hip Bike Tour
Perfect for a smaller group, the award-winning Steel Donkey Bike Tours offer arguably the best guided rides in town, with a focus on off-the-beaten path sights. Relaxed, friendly and fun, you will get a great overview of the city without feeling like a tourist. Tell them you're a hen party and they'll be able to offer you a private tour and even tailor the itinerary to your group, taking you to some chic cafes and hidden spots. Click the link for prices and more info.

Horse Riding in the Catalan Countryside
Discover the beauty of the local countryside in Catalonia (ie. the region of Spain of which Barcelona is the capital) on this 3 hour horse trek that takes you into the mountains. You'll ride your new four legged friend at a gentle pace through stunning scenery, stopping for a local rustic lunch of hams, cheeses and a drop of wine. The action takes place just 40 mins away from Barcelona and transfers can be arranged. Cost is €89pp. More details via info@barcelona-life.com

Pole Dancing Lessons
It's sexy, it's fun, and it's great for pretty much all your muscle groups, from your shoulders to your thighs. Have a giggle recreating scenes from Showgirls and Closer with your girlfriends, all of course with the help of a professional instructor. This one hour class costs €30pp and also includes a free glass of Cava to help loosen inhibitions and unleash the extrovert in all your crew. Contact info@barcelona-life.com for more. Pole-dancing too racy? We can also help organise salsa, flamenco, breakdance and burlesque dance classes. Just specify when you email us.

Private Boat Trip
When it comes to spoiling the bride to be, few things will impress as much as chartering a private yacht onto the big blue of the glittering Mediterranean sea. Sign up for this chilled out sailing experience and you can recline on deck sipping Catalan champagne as your captain takes you out on the water and you soak up the sun like Instagram's finest. A selfie? Don't mind if I do! Prices start at €59 pp but depend on group size and whether you elect a 2 hour or 4 hour cruise. Get in touch via info@barcelona-life.com and we'll get back with a quote and more details.

Recommended Party / Night Activities

Boozy Boat Party
A great option for groups of girls looking to mingle with some fellow hedonists, this boat party sets sail both during the day and in the evening, during the warmer months, and boasts bar, DJs, entertainment and BBQ (optional). After two or three hours of fun on the Mediterranean you will receive free club entry to one of the glamorous venues on the Port Olimpic. For an authentic taste of the city, sign up for this tapas crawl that takes you to some of the best tapas bars, bodegas and vermuterias (vermouth bars) in town. Your local guide will help you know your anchoas from your ensaladilla as you select some of the best small plates in town, along with delicious wines, vermouths, cava and craft beers to wash them down with. A great option for a more gastronomically minded group, keen to sample this uniquely Spanish way of eating and drinking. Contact info@barcelona-life.com for more.

Spanish Meal with Cheeky Butler
What's better than Spanish cuisine? Spanish cuisine served up by Gael Garcνa Bernal's buffer little brother (...at least he told us they're related). That's right, your delicious tapas meal will be dished right up by quite a dish himself, and it's hard to say which is yummier. Included in the package (so to speak) are some party games and free Cava for all. Alternatively switch the butler for a stripper. There are a few different options / prices here so get in contact with info@barcelona-life.com with your own details and we'll run them by you.

Shake it like a Polaroid picture, even before you've hit the dancefloor, with this activity that is the perfect way to blend day into night and get your girls - and especially the bride - drinking. During this private class you'll learn how to muddle the perfect mojito along with other classic cocktails and mixed drinks... and naturally you do get to drink your own creations! The price is just €30 pp and you can email info@barcelona-life.com for more details or to request a reservation.

As highlighted earlier on this page, this nightlife tour comes with the Barcelona Life seal of approval and combines drinking Cava with night time views over the city to partying until dawn at the most famous address in town... Opium Beach Club. The tour runs every Friday and Saturday from April to the end of September with limited places so best to book in advance.
