Cava Sabrage Class

A swashbuckling wine tasting event!

  • Play
  • Sants

Huzzah! No more opening bottles of Cava with a cautious twist of your fingers… make like an 18th century Napoleonic cavalryman and get the party started in style by scything off the top of the bottle with a bona fide sabre!

Believe it or not, when you take off a bottle top with the upwards swipe of a blade, the motion, along with the pressure of the effervescent Cava (think Champagne, but made right here in Catalonia), creates a beautiful clean cut so that you can pour out the bubbly safely and drink the bottle’s contents.

During this fun and original activity, your sommelier-host will explain the romantic history of Cava sabrage and then show you how to do it safely using a curved machete. The venue is a rather hip, authentic wine bodega in the Sants district of Barcelona, and they’ve handily stuck up a target range so you can compete with your mates at trying to hit the bullseye with the sliced off bottle top.

After a welcome glass of Cava and thorough demonstration, with safety tips, every guest gets their own bottle of Cava to sabre, and what isn’t spilled in the process is drunk afterwards, paired with some delicious local nibbles (cheeses, charcuterie etc).

At the end of the class, you even receive a Certificate of completion and your corked bottleneck as a keyring.

Reservations

The cost of the class is €69 euros per person, for 4-20 people, and €79 p.p for 2-3 people.

Typically, the event is available any day of the week, subject to other bookings. Just email us at info@barcelona-life.com with your travel dates and we’ll help get you booked in.

For larger groups (20+ persons) there is a supplementary fee of around 20% to use an alternative venue (usually a beautiful patio garden!). Please contact with dates and number of persons to get a fixed rate for your group.

Add Paella Class!

Upgrade this activity to include a paella class! For €99 per person for 4-15 people (and €119 p.p for 2-3 people), you can learn how to cook Spain’s legendary rice dish in the company of a Hofman-trained chef, as part of the same activity. More details here, or just specify you’re interested when you email us.

I enjoyed living out my Three Musketeer fantasies on this activity, which produced a lot of laughs and giggles and also kept us well watered and fed! Definitely a fun activity for small groups of friends, and the bodega is a really nice place to hang out as well. Recommended :-)
