There's no shortage of things going on in Barcelona, and if you're interested in checking out one or two events whilst in town click on our monthly listings above for the latest news. Festivals take place through the year from traditional Catholic processions like the Festes de Sant Medir de Gracia, when the famous Catalan dance of sardana can be observed, whilst clubheads will be more familiar with the likes of Sonar and Primavera Sound Festival, and Benicassim is not too far down the road. Other biggies include Festes de la Merce, Santa Eulalia and of course the Catalan National Day on the 11th September, in remembrance of the dark day when the city was forced to capitulate against the Bourbons in 1714.
All that is just the tasty top leaf of the proverbial iceburg lettuce however, and visitors will find plenty more good stuff to chew on underneath. Barcelona is buzzing on a weekly basis with art exhibitions, flamenco festivals, jazz jamborees, international gigs, beach parties, opera performances, contemporary and classical music concerts and much more besides. Click on the links at the top of this page for our events calendar, or check out our Barcelona festivals guide for more information and cost of tickets. Finally don't forget to take a peek at our culture pages for info and location maps for venues such as museums, concert halls and contemporary cultural centres. | |
