Hip bar which attracts a diverse crowd
One of Raval’s more sophisticated sipping stops, Marmalade has succeeded in creating an elegant but unpretentious ambiance that appeals to a diverse crowd. From the smartly-attired office workers swigging cervezas and talking animatedly in Catalan, to louche Bohemians sprawling over the low-slung sofas with a cocktail – not to mention a smattering of in-the-know expats propping up the bar – this is a place which seems to effortlessly morph to fit the folk who inhabit it.
The decor of floor tiles, redbrick walls and (what we’re dubbing) ‘new Modernista’ murals is certainly conducive to sampling Marmalade’s menu of original cocktails – a ‘Naked Lunch Martini’ anyone? Meanwhile a splendid matte-black billiard table provides extra social opportunities, and the peckish will enjoy nibbling on the bar’s impressive food menu. And if you find yourself in El Gotic instead, check out their little sister, Milk Bar & Bistro.
