Kennedy Irish Sailing Club
Late night Irish bar on the Port Olimpic
A refreshing alternative to the upmarket nightclubs and downmarket discos that abound in Barcelona’s dazzling Port Olimpic marina, Kennedy Irish Sailing Club offers a more civilised mooring point for discerning drinkers in the area.
Wood panelled floors, walls and ceiling give the pub the refined look of a Grand Admiral’s cabin, whilst model ships, framed sextants and the odd oar and rigging round off the nautical theme. There’s a strong emphasis on entertainment at Kennedy’s with live local bands every Thursday to Sunday, from midnight to 3am (yes, this is a bar that keeps the party going late! It closes at 5am at the weekend!), and two projectors and three plasma TVs screening the latest sports action. They’ll put on anything from Premier League games and Six Nations rugby to artistic gymnastics, if you ask nicely.
The bar includes Guinness, Becks and Leffe amongst their draught beers, whilst few things taste better than a glass of Magners or Rekorderlig Swedish cider on their summer terrace overlooking the marina. If you’re worried none of this sounds Irish enough for you, then you’ll find Jameson, Kilbeggan and Midleton whisky behind the bar… and a giant cardboard cut-out of Bono by the live music stage.
