From Roman ruins, Gothic sanctuaries and Modernista masterpieces, through to glass skyscrapers, madcap murals and even pop art statues by Roy Lichtenstein, Barcelona is a city that demands to be photographed. And that's before we mention the colourful skateboarders, mime artists, hipsters, loonies, perroflautas and cantankerous grannies that patrol the city streets. Foto Ruta BCN is a project that hones in on this rich aesthetic material, offering a range of different photography tours that will help you capture the essence of Barcelona, just as you discover it for yourself. Their most popular experience, Foto Ruta Clue, is part treasure hunt, part photo workshop and there's plenty of fun social interaction as you work in teams to shoot evidence in one of the city's most vibrant districts. Foto Ruta iPhoneography is a tour designed to help you harness the power of your smart phone to capture images you didn't know you were capable of creating. Whilst Foto Ruta Streetscape is a chance to really improve your technical skills in the presence of a friendly pro photographer, who also has plenty of creative tips on how to take unique and arresting images. Check their website for more details about this fun project that is already big in Buenos Aires, London and Santiago.
Really cool, different kind of tour. It's neat to get to walk around the city with a professional photographer. They helped me learn a lot about shooting in manual mode, plus took us to some really awesome spots to get pictures. I had a great time with them!

I took part in the streetscape experience which was both a lot of fun and great for learning more about the technical aspects of photography. We learned to look at things from a fresh perspective and I also got some personal tuition in switching from the aperture and shutter priority modes to full manual... which was great! I would definitely recommend this activity for anyone looking for an original way to see a city, especially if they have an interest in photography.
