Catalonia, and in particular the Penedes region, just south of Barcelona, is famous for its vineyards and fine wines, particularly of course for the sparkling white known as Cava. During this extensive wine tasting tour you'll start the day by visiting one of the biggest names in Cava production, namely the Cordoniu Winery. Here you'll explore the cellars with a guide and sample what top-of-the-range 'Spanish Champagne' tastes like right at the source. The largest part of the tour however is spent at a boutique family-run vineyard, where the wine tasting begins in earnest. In this intimate environs you'll not only sample (generous quantities of) Catalan red, white and sparkling wines, but you'll also eat a delicious home made tapas lunch in the cellars with the family, as well of course learn everything there is to know about the wine-making process of a small winery. The tour is priced at 150 euros per person (discounts for groups of 4 and above), and includes all of the above plus private transport to/from Barcelona, with hotel pick up. Email for more details or to book.

One of the highlights to our trip to Barcelona! Loved visiting the larger Cava makers along with the smaller boutique wineries. Very special trip, very personable and professional tour operator. Would book again with them next visit:)

This was an all inclusive guided tour for my husband & me of two wineries located 45 minutes from Barcelona. Guy and Alfiya picked us up from our Barcelona apartment and guided us through Codorniu (one of the largest cava producers) and Felix Massana Rafols (an independent wine producer). Codorniu is very large and impressive, but Felix Massana Rafols was an amazing personal tour by the owner himself! Cristina (Felix's wife) prepared an amazing tapas lunch (the best spanish tortilla we've ever ate!), and we dined with Felix and had the opportunity to taste his wines and converse with him over lunch! My husband and I would highly recommend this, as we had an unforgettable and personal experience!

I found cheaper packages elsewhere but what I liked about this one is that you really get to taste several wines and it's very relaxed and friendly. Admittedly I didn't go on any of the others I read about but I got the impression that the tasting was limited to just a few different vintages and mostly Cavas... where as this was varied, we could go back to the ones we liked and have more, and we enjoyed a great meal in the bargain. Definitely recommended. Also the group size was limited to a maximum of 8 and in fact no one else signed up on the day we went so it ended up being a private tour:)
