Messi Wins Ballon D'Or
Barcelona's supremely talented forward Lionel Messi collected Fifa's Ballon D'Or on Monday, awarded to the best football player in 2010. The Argentine received 22% of votes, ahead of FC Barcelona teammates Xavi Hernandez (16%) and Andres Iniesta (17%) for soccer's most prestigious individual honour.
It was the second year in a row that Messi scooped the Golden Ball, saying: "I didn't expect to win it today. It's a source of happiness to be here with my friends and even more to win it."
Whilst few would dispute that Messi is the most talented player in the world right now, averaging nearly a goal a game for his club - and rarely less than spectacular ones at that - many Spaniards feel aggrieved that one of Xavi or Iniesta did not pick up the prize. After all they were two of the keys players in Spain's 2010 World Cup win.
