Spanish Workers Strike

Bad news for travellers coming to Spain and Barcelona this week, we're afraid. On the 29th September - this Wednesday - the country is expecting widespread chaos. Spanish workers' unions are calling the first general strike in eight years to protest against salary cuts the government is implementing in a bid to alleviate the current recession.

According to El Pais newspaper 9% of workers plan to strike, and it is estimated that only 20 to 40% of international flights will be able to take off and land. Meanwhile if you're planning to travel around Spain by bus or train better to make the journey on Tuesday or Thursday with major public transport disruptions expected.

Good luck!
