Barcelona Off To Winning Start
After an eventful off-season, during which Spain won the World Cup, Fabregas didn't sign from Arsenal, but Mascherano did sign from Liverpool, Barcelona FC finally kicked off the 2010-2011 La Liga campaign last Sunday. It took all of 3 minutes for the mercurial magician Messi to make it 1-0 against Racing Santander, with a well taken chip, before Iniesta doubled the lead when his well-judged volley met with the goalkeeper's punched clearance. It was left for new boy, David Villa, to round off the scoring with a powerful cross-goal header.
If Barca's season has got off to a flying start, the same can't be said for their arch-rival's Real Madrid. A nil-nil draw away at minnows Mallorca is hardly the start of champions, whilst star player Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to be out for two or three weeks with a bruised ankle. All in all a nightmare start for Jose Mourinho: it really couldn't have happened to a nicer man.
