Sonar Festival Coming To Town
Great news for music lovers arriving in Barcelona for the 18th-20th June - your visit will co-incide with arguably the city's most prestigious event, the Sonar Festival.
The festival started 16 years ago and describes itself as a festival of advanced music and multimedia art. Somewhat high-faluted but as you have probably already gauged this is not a standard pop or rock festival, held in a muddy field for teenagers who've drunk one too may ciders. Rather, for three day and nights art installations, video screenings, DJ sets and live acts play a host of venues across the city, such as the MACBA (Museum of Contemporary Art in Barcelona).
2009 will see some renowned musicians descend on the city such as Orbital, Grace James, James Murphy and Pat Mahoney (playing a special 70s disco set), SebastiAn, Luomo and Crookers. There will also be a special co-operation with the UK's Radio 1, with Mary Ann Hobbs - the godmother of dubstep - gracing the decks on Friday the 19th.
The official website has all the info you need on programmes, accommodation, tickets and how to get to the various venues. Remember there's plenty going on during the day too so plan carefully to fit in as much music and mayhem as possible.
