Catalonia Most Visited Region in Spain

Right the tourist stats for 2011 are in and it's great news for Catalonia... the region received more foreign visitors than any other part of Spain, with a whopping 13.7 million choosing to come here on holiday, 4.7% more than in 2010. Hardly surprising however when you think of all the great things to see and do here, starting of course with a visit to Barcelona, but also including visiting Montserrat mountain, Figueres and the Dali Museum, Sitges and the other great coastal resorts on the Costa Brava and much more besides (check out this breathtaking medieval villages hiking tour for one corner of Catalonia you've yet to discover!).

Second and third places went to the Canary Islands and the Balearic Islands with 10.2 and 10.1 million respectively, whilst Spain as a whole managed 57 million visitors - a rise of 7.6%.

Of the visitors, the Brits came in the largest numbers (13.6 million) followed by the Germans (9 million) and the French (8.5 million).
