Xavi Best Playmaker in 2011
FC Barcelona's stalwart midfield passing machine, Xavi Hernandez, was this week named the best playmaker in 2011, by the International Federation for Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
Xavi beat competition from his illustrious Barca team-mates Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta, as well as from Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil to scoop the big prize - the fourth time he has won it.
The midfielder was the main cog in the Barcelona engine last season as he led the team to victories in La Liga and Champions League, as well as the World Club Championship.
Whether Barca are set to repeat their 2011 success in 2012 remains to be seen, and one player who might be on their way to help them is the Welsh wizard of the wing, Gareth Bale, currently on fire for Tottenham FC. It remains to be seen though if the London club are willing to sell one of the best players as they make their own bid for championship glory in the Premier League.
