CCTV for Las Ramblas

Barcelona City Council has applied for approval for six CCTV cameras to be installed in problem areas in the Old Town. The move follows an ongoing debate in the media regarding the degradation of the renowned Las Ramblas boulevard into a den of petty crime and prostitution - a debate which culminated in photos published in El Pais newspaper showing prostitutes performing sex acts on tourists in the streets.

The security cameras will be strategically located in areas where anti-social behaviour is most prevalent, including La Boqueria market, Carrer Ferran, Nou de la Rambla, Plaša del Teatre, Santa Monica and Josep Anselm Clave.
