One of Barcelona's most charming events, Sant Jordi's Day is a celebration of the dragon-slaying saint who is the patron of Catalonia as well as England and various other nations with an intense dislike of lizards. On the 23rd April the entire length of Las Ramblas erupts with flower stalls, and tradition dictates that men should purchase some petals for all the dainty damsels they are fond of, romantically or otherwise. Women are encouraged to be equally generous, but their task is to pick out some reading material for the special men in their lives. After all, the legendary scribe, Miguel Cervantes died on this very day.
