Of all the bars in Raval, Ambar is perhaps the one that personifies this eclectic area the best. Just like the district, the decor is a surprising mix of the brand new and the downright shabby. Slick red bar top, metallic stools and modern floor-to-ceiling windows contrast with threadbare sofas, gilt-gold picture frames (devoid of pictures) and lamps stolen from your great aunt's bedsit. Somehow it works and as a result Ambar is perenially full of cool kids, couples and lost souls, waxing lyrical, snogging and composing poetry respectively. In summer a seat outside at the bottom of the Rambla de Raval is a perfect perching point. |
